What is Swede Fest?

Swede Fest is the only film festival dedicated to sweded films. A sweded film is a summarized, low-budget recreation of a popular movie, starring you! The term comes from the 2008 film “Be Kind Rewind” directed by Michel Gondry, and in his words: “[Your film] doesn’t have to be good, it’s not a competition. It’s for people to make a movie and watch it.” That’s Swede Fest. The festival started in California but has grown to receive submissions from as far as the UK, France, Spain and Australia! Swede Fest happens every six months in Fresno, California and Tampa, Florida. If you’re interested in starting a Swede Fest in your area, contact us!

Our interview on NPR’s Morning Edition is now online for your listening pleasure! HUGE SURPRISE: Michel Gondry was interviewed as well. We just collectively fell out of our chairs here at Swede Fest! We’ve been trying to get Mr. Gondry’s attention from the beginning, and to receive his endorsement is so incredibly awesome. Check it out below.
